Betty Jean (Williams) Middleton was born on December 2, 1940, in Leesburg, FL, to the late Joseph Glenn and Sarah Williams. She grew up in Leesburg, FL, where she attended school and started her family with husband, Tom Middleton. Although Betty worked many jobs over her lifetime, she quickly discovered she had a gift and a passion for cooking. This talent led her to a career as a cook at Lake Yale Baptist Assembly, where she retired after many faithful years of service. Her work ethic both on and off the job set her apart. She found God at an early age at Mt. Olive Progressive Baptist Church, where she had remained an active member until her health limited her. During her years of service, she was active on both the Usher board and in the Culinary ministry. Her love of cooking mixed with her southern hospitality had been the platform for many celebrations over the years. Those who knew her definitely had a “favorite cake.” She spent a lifetime caring for others both in and out of her home. She would often cook and deliver food for friends both sick and well. Without being asked, she would find ways to help those who had a need. God saw fit to promote her from labor to reward on October 19, 2023. She was preceded in death by both parents; husband, Tom Middleton; three brothers, James Lembrick, Herbert Williams, and Michael Williams; sister, Willie Pearl Williams Brown; and son, Karl (Perry Ann) Middleton. Betty leaves to cherish her memory: her children, Dennis Middleton of Fruitland Park, FL, Timothy (Nakia) Middleton of Orlando, FL, Dedra (Charles) Jones of Okahumpka, FL, and Nikki Middleton of Orlando, FL; brother, Roger (Angela) Williams of Leesburg, FL; stepsisters, Ernestine W. Bagley of Masscotte, FL, and Rosetta (Raymond) Givens of Leesburg, FL; grandchildren, Karl Middleton, Jr., of Royal, FL, Natasha (Nelson) Walters of Eustis, FL, Antwan (Quinetta) Burgess of Orlando, FL, Ti’neal Middleton of Orlando, FL, Zariya Middleton of Orlando, FL, Anthoni Jones of Lady Lake, FL, Kamrein Jones Okahumpka, FL, La’Keya Jones Okahumpka, FL, and Aliyah Nedd of Orlando, FL; eleven great-grandchildren; and a host of nieces, nephews, cousins, and grieving friends.
