Edlyn Zandra Dickerson West was a Believer in God our Father and Jesus Christ. Growing up she was a super child, brave, strong and energetic. As an adult she was a devoted mother to Dea Major, daughter to Edlyn Allen and Augustus West and friend to many.
Edlyn’s middle name Zandra means love of mankind and she embodied this in every aspect of her life, supporting many causes to help others.
She was a passionate person, generous to a fault.
Multi-talented not only in vocal music, but also in instrumental where she played the violin, alto sax, tuba and viola, cello and string bass.
After many solos in middle school, high school, and church, Edlyn went on to study music at the college level at Stetson University and Bethune Cookman University.
At the same time that she was advancing with her music,, she was also showing great leadership and was popular with her friends and classmates. Edlyn was elected to school and club positions including as Student Body President for 1995-1996 at Leesburg High School and the State Vice President of the Florida Junior Classical League (a statewide organization for 5000 classical Latin students).
Reggie McGill mentored her at church. These experiences led her to leadership roles through the church and civic organizations including becoming the President of the Lay of St. Paul’s AME Church.
Professionally she started in the world of finance and later moved into the insurance field, working for Advent Health and more recently for Mutual of Omaha during the past several years. She has also been enrolled in the Accelerated Program in Business at Edward Waters University.
Edlyn had a zeal for life. She was enthusiastic with personality plus. She was resilient and had an indomitable spirit.
In her final months, even though she was under unimaginable pain, she never complained and persevered through it continuing to work and be present for her family.
