Penelope Conte (73), of Dunnellon, FL, and formerly of Penn Hills, PA, passed away peacefully on February 22, 2024. She was born on December 6, 1950 to the late Frank C. Conte Sr. and Norma T. Conte. Penelope is preceded in death by her beloved brother, Frank C. Conte Jr.
Penelope is survived by her devoted son, Jeremy S. Poling, of Frederick, MD, and her cherished grandson, Jacob R. Poling, also of Frederick, MD.
Penelope was a dedicated educator, shaping young minds as an English teacher at Inverness High School and later as a Media Specialist at Wildwood Intermediate School. Her passion for teaching extended beyond the classroom, leaving a lasting impact on her students.
Following her illustrious career in education, Penelope embarked on a journey of adventure and discovery. Retirement beckoned her to Haleiwa, HI, where she embraced the island life before returning to Florida, eventually settling in Crystal Beach for a period of time. However, it was in Dunnellon, FL, that Penelope found her true sense of belonging, establishing her forever home in August 2015.
Throughout her life, Penelope found joy in the simple pleasures that nature provided. In her youth, she relished snorkeling and swimming alongside gentle manatees in the local springs. She had a deep affinity for horseback riding, particularly with her trusty western saddle, and she found solace in caring for her numerous dogs and cats.
Penelope was a lifelong learner, earning a Bachelor's Degree from West Virginia Wesleyan College and later achieving a Master's Degree in English Language. She continued her academic pursuits at the University of Central Florida, where she obtained a Master of Science Degree in Media Science.
Penelope's warmth, kindness, and unwavering spirit will be dearly missed by all who had the privilege of knowing her. She leaves behind a legacy of love, compassion, and dedication that will continue to inspire those whose lives she touched.
A memorial service to celebrate Penelope's life will be held at Evergreen Memorial Gardens Cemetery (10200 Bay St, Leesburg, Florida 34788) on Tuesday, March 5, 2024 at 11:00AM.
