Ruth Mitchell, at 100 years of age, died on January 24, 2022 in Leesburg, Florida. She was the first Black Registered Nurse to work in Leesburg and Lake County. Ruth received her Bachelor of Science Degree in Nursing, 1947, at Florida A&M College (now Florida A&M University). She is the mother of James L. Mitchell, Jr.(Julia Mitchell) both preceded her in death) and three grandsons (Joey Barefield, James L. Mitchell, III, and Jullian B. Mitchell). Ruth was a member of FAMU Alumni Association, AARP and a life member of the NAACP. She retired in 1989 from the Lake County Correctional Institution. Ruth was also a devoted member of St. James Episcopal Church, Leesburg,Florida.
